Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jade@northpointacupuncture.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine involving thin needles being inserted into the body.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as pain, stress, anxiety, depression, digestive issues, fertility issues, and more.

Yes, acupuncture is generally safe when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner.

Initial appointments typically last around 60–75 minutes, allowing time for a full consultation and personalised treatment. Follow-up sessions are shorter, usually 30–45 minutes, focused on targeted care and ongoing progress.

During the acupuncture session, you will lie down on a comfortable table while the acupuncturist inserts thin needles into specific points on your body. You may feel a slight prick or a sensation of warmth or heaviness. You will then relax for about 20-30 minutes before the needles are removed.

It is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing to your acupuncture session. It is also best to avoid eating a heavy meal or consuming alcohol or caffeine before your appointment.

Many insurance plans now cover acupuncture, but it is best to check with your provider to see if it is covered under your specific plan.

Cupping is a gentle therapy using suction cups to improve circulation, ease muscle tension, and support natural healing.

It’s generally comfortable, with only a mild pulling sensation.

Temporary circular marks may appear but usually fade within a few days.

Cupping can relieve tension, pain, stiffness, and stress.

Initial facial cupping sessions usually last 45  minutes, including consultation and treatment. Follow-up sessions are shorter, around 30 minutes, focusing on maintaining results and improving skin tone and circulation.
